This product (and shipping) is available to all MakersPEV customers at no cost who have previously purchased a Little FOCer v3.0 or v3.1 [prior to April 10, 2023] who notice abnormal system behavior during motor detection or bootup processes. This may be most noticeable when upgrading from VESC* v5.3 to VESC* v6.x open source firmware.

What is it?

A 100 microfarad capacitor connected a 2 pin JST.

How is it installed?

Connect the 2pin JST to the 5v CAN power header and secure the capacitor. We recommend hot gluing it to the top of the BLE module on the Little FOCer as shown in the product picture.

What if i am using CAN power for something else?

The solution will work anywhere on the 5v rail. 

What does it do?

Under some conditions, (intermittently happens when hot plugging a high voltage battery) the 5v rail can power on too fast and cause a race condition that affects power delivery. The provided capacitor enforces a startup delay that circumvents the intermittent race condition from occurring.

Am I at additional risk while riding?

NO! This is a non-critical issue that has only been observed to happen intermittently during startup.  The vehicle would not be rideable in this startup condition and there is no risk of it occurring during normal operation. The issue was existent but not typically observed in VESC* firmware's prior to 6.x. This is a fix to provide additional compatibilities to our product and is not a recall. 

How do I get one?

Yes but the pint/GT uses proprietary connectors therefore will need some DIY in order to make it work.

You can use any battery that fits in your build up to 20s! At this time there are a few manufacturers that make compatible upgraded batteries. 2 that we would recommend include Z Battery Solutions and The Board Garage.

The BMS choice is ultimately up to the user but a few popular options at the moment are ZBMZ, the ennoid and changing an xr/pint bms to charge only.

The Makers PEV BMS is in the works and coming soon.

Yes we ship anywhere we can from the United States. International shipping rates will apply and are not included in our $15 flat rate shipping.

Though most of the connectors from an XR controller can be reused it will require quite a bit of DIY and is significantly harder.

The only part that is not compatible is the momentary switch on the XR. The Little FOCer uses a latching switch.

No, our product replaces it completely and does not work with it in any way. You can choose to use either the Littler FOCer or your FM controller, but you cannot use them together.

No, at this time we are here to support people in their own builds and provide the equipment needed to do so.

VESC™ is the software that the Little FOCer hardware runs on similar to how Linux is the operating system for many different computers.
